Over the last few months Assoċjazzjoni Wirt il-Kalkara has been working constantly on the ‘Kalkara Heritage Trail’ project, a walk around Kalkara where in various historical areas of the village, fifteen information stands conataining information both in English and Maltese have been permanently affixed. Each stand contains a QR code through which the user can access more information and photos about each historical site or icon. The stands were affixed with the help of the Local Council.
In addition to this, to help those using the trail, a hand-drawn tourist map of Kalkara was created by artist Alfie Gatt while the information on historical sites was written and researched by Chev. Duncan Brincat. Apart from the fifteen sites indicated by the stands, the user also finds other important sites and places of interest around Kalkara marked on the map. The map can be downloaded from the website visitkalkara.com in pdf format, but it will also be distributed free of charge in all Kalkara shops and establishments in the coming days to be available for anyone who wants a copy.
This project is coordinated by Chev. Etienne Camilleri on behalf of Assoċjazzjoni Wirt il-Kalkara while it is funded under the LEADER Program of the Rural Development Program (RDP) 2014 – 2020, of the European Union, as well as by the NGO Co-Financing Fund program under the responsibility of the Ministry of Education. Thanks also goes to GAL Xlokk Foundation and MEAUSAC for all the help.
