During the year 2023 the Confraternity of Saint Joseph within our Parish of Kalkara, celebrated the 125th anniversary of its establishment, on April 6, 1898. With this in mind, Assoċjazzjoni Wirt il-Kalkara intended to donate a set of six processional lanterns that can be used during the procession of Corpus Christi and to accompany the relic of Saint Joseph, since almost all the works of art belonging to the Confraternity were lost during the Second World War.
Therefore, after the success of the application for funds from the Kottonera Foundation, Assoċjazzjoni Wirt il-Kalkara was awarded the necessary funding to carry out this project. The set of lanterns plated in silver were handmade by a Spanish firm, in collaboration with the firm George Zammit and Sons of Valletta. On Monday 15 July 2024, these were donated to the Parish Church of Saint Joseph of Kalkara, and were blessed by the Parish Priest Mons. Nicholas Pace.
