On Tuesday 10th December, the Kalkara Local Council organized the annual activity on the occasion of Kalkara Day. An evening parade was held from Archbishop Gonzi Square to Holy Family Square with the participation of the Scouts and various dignitaries. Present for this walk were the Mayor Wayne Aquilina, Hon. Glenn Bedingfield, the President of the Southeast Region Paul Farrugia, Councillors of the Kalkara Local Council, representatives of the Cottonera local councils, the parish priest Brian Gialanzè, representatives of the locality’s associations, together with other distinguished guests. At Holy Family Square flowers and wreaths were placed at the foot of the Kalkara war victims memorial. The walk continued to Our Saviour Church where Mass was held with the participation of local talent.
The ceremony of ‘Ġieħ il-Kalkara’ held at Villa Bighi followed, in which took part the Saint Joseph Band under the direction of Mro. Jonathan Abela. Several local talent participated during the event. The honour of ‘Ġieħ il-Kalkara’ for this year was awarded to Lawrence Busuttil. In a statement, Assoċjazzjoni Wirt il-Kalkara congratulated Mr. Busuttil for this honor, as well as the Kalkara Local Council for the organisation of this professional event.
